GOAL 6: CLEAN WATER AND SANITATION
Water scarcity affects over 40% of people worldwide, and this percentage is expected to rise due to climate change and global warming. Since 1990, 2.1 billion people have gained access to better water and sanitation, yet the decline of safe drinking water sources remains a significant issue affecting all continents. In 2011, 41 countries faced water shortages, with 10 nearing depletion of renewable freshwater sources. By 2050, at least one in four people is expected to be affected by frequent water scarcity. To ensure everyone has access to safe drinking water by 2030, investments in infrastructure, sanitation facilities, and hygiene promotion are crucial. Additionally, preserving and restoring water-related ecosystems, as well as fostering international cooperation for water efficiency and purification technologies in developing countries, is essential.
