GOAL 16: PEACE, JUSTICE, AND STRONG INSTITUTIONS
We cannot expect sustainable development without peace, stability, human rights, and effective governance based on the rule of law. We live in an increasingly divided world. While peace, security, and prosperity are constant in some regions, others face endless cycles of conflict and violence, which must be addressed. High-intensity armed conflicts and insecurity have devastating impacts on national development, affecting economic growth and creating injustices that can last for generations. The Sustainable Development Goals aim to significantly reduce all forms of violence and work with governments and societies to find lasting solutions to conflict and insecurity. Strengthening the rule of law is key to this process, as is preventing illegal arms trade and enhancing the participation of developing countries in global governance institutions.
